Just getting started

PHEW…. I made a purchase a while back… it was chap – like maybe at the dollar store.

YES it was an EASY crossword puzzle book. I mean this baby was CHEAP…

So I set it in the basket with my puzzle books which is next to the toilet in my bathroom….

and one day thought –“Oh I think I want to do a crossword puzzle..” I saw this EASY book- and figured I could whip is through before I was done going to the bathroom…

So I put on a pair of glasses, grabbed a pen and book, sat down on the “throne” and tried to do one puzzle.

Well I gotta tell you .. DID I FEEL STUPID!!None of the clues even made sense, I did not know what the words even meant- let alone what they wanted me to put in the boxes… Now I am no whiz kid—but this was pathetic!

I thought—“Oh maybe this is just a bad one” … so I went to the next…again….  I might have known ONE clue…

It was asking for characters in books I never heard of, asking for things I thought someone made up. Finally I got to the point of tossing the book out and admitting to myself that I have totally lost it. Gone… my crossword days are over… woe is me….

I resorted for months to either the FIND THE WORD or the FILL IN books— until a couple week ago. End of December—stocking stuffers… a DELL Easy crossword book— Santa could bring me that !

As I carefully opened it last night—as I read the first clue—I was ecstatic!. I knew the word and what they wanted me to fill in… Oh this was good… yes… so I looked at the next clue—AGAIN I KNEW THE WORD !!!.

So the moral to my story—a lesson in life… is NEVER BUY A CHEAP crossword puzzle book—if it is not DELL- it may be one that was made elsewhere and the attempted to interpret it to English….

I am glad to say—I CAN DO EASY CROSSWORDS>>> you have no idea how relieved I was to learn – I HAVE NOT LOST IT.

Now with a new found confidence- I am going to proceed to sorting the 2013 receipts for taxes—and maybe doing another puzzle…

Love to all, Mrs Justa Alias Cindy.

Well as we adjust to Riley back from 2 weeks at doggie boot camp, we are working with her a couple times a day to keep all the commands she learned fresh in her mind.

Riley is the sweetest dog you could ever imagine, but her fright in being left alone was too much to comprehend. Our vet examined her and prescribed doggie anti—anxiety/ anti OCD meds. They totally zonked her out. The vet suggested we give her these meds AND work with a trainer. They recommended the “Dog Whisperer” of the east. So we took her up there and she was there for 2 whole weeks. Dang we missed her like crazy, but hopefully it would help to find ways to calm her separation anxiety.

The above photo is Riley in her place. That is part of her workings, and the goal is that even when we are not doing her 15-20 minute working—it is where she will go when told to, and not leave till we release her. 100_0608

As we have been working her she has trouble with “down”.. So Mark and I decided to watch the DVD the trainer sent home with us, showing us Riley working with Neil the trainer. As soon as the DVD goes in, she stops… and sits in front of us and watches the DVD. She intently sits there, and actually sat thru 5 showings of it. Than I tried “down” and she did it !. It really is funny, she relates to this video.

Now for being left home… we had to d/c the big open crate and go back to the solid crate. We were afraid she was going to crack all her teeth out in her panic mode… Rileys bent crate and having the boys over 11-17-12 003

Rileys bent crate and having the boys over 11-17-12 002She is still not a fan of being left home… Neil suggested we try an electric training collar . So  she now uses an electric collar on a low setting. See her anxiety causes her to pant, than she barks, her barks increase her anxiety till she is totally out of control. This zapper settles her down a bit because if she barks she gets a little trickle of electricity. It does work.

We  do see a difference in Riley since she went. She is less clingy to us. Neil explained that she was feeling like she was in charge of us, so when we moved to a different room..she came with us. If we left or crated her..she felt like she could not protect us. As I type this, she is by herself in the kitchen snoozing. She would not have done that before.

We have also gotten her accepted in a Doggie Daycare and plan to have her spend a day or 2 a week there for 4-8 hrs. She can socialize, and it gives her less time she would need to be crated. The day care said she was VERY GOOD>>>> (HA she came home exhausted !!!)

So we are being trained to be the ones in charge… and she is learning to be a dog.

I hope the progress continues… and next week we have to return to the trainer to show how well we and she are doing with the commands and behavior. Geesie.. I hope we pass!!.

We are off to shop for the last few things… I hope you are all having a good holiday season.

Be safe.. be careful..and never wait till tomorrow to tell someone you love them… tell them now..and never ever stop!!!.

Love to all Mrs Justa alias Cindy

parts for spreader 001

So today my numero uno project after errands, and changing towels sheets and stuff was to get the spreader put together. We bought it earlier in the week, and took all the parts out and it sat in the living room, waiting for some attention…. Mark had just fallen asleep in the recliner and I thought “Oh goody..I can surprise him…” Well let’s just say—I DID surprise him. I am an instruction freak. I mean I take reading instructions to a new level of nerdness. I read all the instructions before starting any project ( even changing the light bulbs !) I stop every few seconds to see the labels on the parts and try to figure out the drawings….

So with his snoring in the background I carried carefully each bulky big ass piece into the kitchen. We do not really have a work area- so the island was gonna be my work shop. So I read each word SLOWLY..the various parts are coded… ( this was made in CHINA ( I KNOW THAT IS A SURPRISE!!) and well their translating instructions and the way they label and draw things kind of affects my comprehension sometimes.

So I get this axle on the island… they have this pipe piece and call it by 2 names—but it is only one item.. that took me quite a while to figure out !. The first tire goes onto the axle after I slid on 4 washers and the wheel spacer ( alias small pipe_.. Than the tire slides on and there is a hole in the hub and in the axel—just slide the bolt through the holes after lining them up….and tighten the washer. ( DONE !!) ..As I am trying to get the second part of the axle done—Mark wakes up …. so his surprise is that I am trying to do this. HE comes out to help. It was a rather interesting venture—but we got it together….. sweat, a couple slices here and there..but the old foggies got er done. manual for spreadder 001

We had to work on and off the island as we created this master piece  due to it’s very large size. We get it on the floor and I push it, but the spreader part that spins as the axle turns is not spinning…

Wouldn’t you know. the VERY FIRST STEP !!! I messed up. Yep… I got the bolt thru the hub, nice and snug fit..BUT I DID NOT ALLIGN IT WITH THE AXEL> ( I thought I did..) but as the tire was falling off—it became apparent to me that step one failed.

So now we have this whole gigunda spreader together and step one is in need of being done correctly.

UGGG> there is a reason this is STEP one !!. iT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO PULL TEETH FROM A RABID ELEPHANT THAN GET THIS TIRE ON THE AXEL NOW !!> But finally after beads of sweat, huff and puffs, a few relooking at the instructions.. and shining a flash light into the hole trying to see when it was lined up… well the spreader is now in the shed—

We are a couple of determined old farts… but I had to laugh.. Mark and I trying to figure out tools, and the this goes there and that goes here…. ugggg. I am glad it is okay…

Mark said ..” I should have left it at Jeff’s and asked him to do it…” but had we done that… well I would not have this adventure to share….

I am going to go grab a nice cold glass of Red Cat and relax now…. laundry is washing, house is 1/2 way to done…. dinner is baking….. spreader is done…

Have a great night…. Love to all, Mrs Justa… alias Cindy

Oh my goodness… As if I did not have time before ..now add WORDS WITH FRIENDS to the mix!!!

This is addictive… I mean worse than smoking , drinking and eating all together.

It takes me twice as long to clean on Saturdays..cuz every time my phone does the chime that someone just played a word—well I gotta go and see what they played.

I like to play with people my speed.. ( Mentally challenged !!LOL)

No but really… see when there are games on line—than some creep will design sites to go to where you can enter your letters and it gives you words you NEVER heard of. There are some whiz folks who entwine the words so one work will fit next to another—and the person gets 80-100 points with words I never knew existed… Those people are not real fun to play against. I refuse to go to those sites…and well I am just not as smart as they are in this game.

I am more on the level of “the”…”it” .. “qi” maybe throw in a 5 letter word every once in a while… Oh my goodness… lunches at work—I run out to my car and play a few words on my smart phone..than turn it off and go back to work.

Making dinner—phone is on and charging and every “bling” sound… I scoot over and play a word.

I am PATHETIC!!!. I was wondering if I could get a waterproof cover and play a word in the shower LOL

So needless to say… I have not posted—cuz I have been wording it with friends.

It is fun… it is kinda nerve wracking—because people will start a game and not play a words for DAYS!!!. There have been nights when Mark and I are sitting on the couch playing a game against each other… when we went camping—9:00 PM hit—and out came our smart phones— and off for word with friends. Now mind you we have a scrabble board—but heck this seems more adventurous.

I guess it is better than other addictions… but dang.. it is a time filler too.

We are okay… Mark has his emotional issues that tend to bring him on highs or lows… and the highs keep him from sleep… the lows keep him in bed more.

Riley is a good dog.. we are lucky to have her—I think. She is very affectionate… loves to be with us… and is chomping on this beef bone I bought today and baked for her…… She is a little obsessive compulsive—I think she has been scraping it for 5 hrs now !!.

Our kids and grandkids seem to be all doing well…and the rest of the family is too…

Life is FLYING by… but at least I am alive to watch it fly by—so I guess that is a good thing.

I am off to cook dinner.. and do some more stuff for work…

Love to all. Mrs Justa alias Cindy

When the chips are down..are you are victim or a fighter?

I am sure you all have been exposed to people so focused on the bad that they forget to shine through it and show off the good.

I am reminded of this almost daily and the remnants of the garden made me think of it again.

Amidst the dying plants, the dirt tossed around from the corn stalks that have all been  pulled, 1/2 the tomatoe plants pulled, the lettuce is a thought in the past, and radishes long gone. Some pretty tall sunflower plants have come and gone, and amidst the signs of fall stands a couple of late sunflowers. They came at the end of the season. Not sure why… but all of the sudden there they are. They did not give up and say it is too late in the season—and chose to just sulk in the soil..nope…. they searched for any rays of sunlight they could find, they drank any droplets of rain, they pushed thru the dirt and the rocks, and when their relatives were already through their cycle..up comes these 2 guys/gals. 9-2012 021

Life fills us with challenges, with dares, with kicks in the knees..and it is hard to sometimes not let it knock you down.

But the remains of the garden are a sign of trying their best to get through the cooler nights, the less sun and just fight to the end.

9-2012 022

There are bits of this all over the garden. In the back right corner are 3 egg  plants— there are about 12 blossoms..who knows if they will succeed in beating the season..but they are trying.

In the upper left –those are peppers.. we just had some peppers in the home made spaghetti sauce that were from the garden yesterday!. And in the center towards the right—that is a pumpkin plant…. hopefully able to produce some pumpkins for next months holiday… I BELIEVE it will…

IT IS SO EASY TO TELL OURSELVES WE CAN’T… BUT MUCH MORE FILFILLING TO SAY WE CAN.

So this lesson this year is coming from the remainder of a garden that is mostly over… but it IS NOT over until the snow blankets it and another season totally comes to an end.

Believe in yourself… look for the good in life and keep the negative quelled. Be thankful for what you have and appreciate the gifts life can give.

Believe like this sunflower seed believed… Peace to all, Mrs Justa..alias Cindy

sept 2011 stuff 033

I am not a politician, never wanted to be one, never really felt the need to do anything but maybe support one I felt strongly about.

As we enter the next 2 months of “How nasty can one get over the other” I am looking to buy earplugs and blinders when the political personal attacks start. If one starts playing dirty and the other stays above the line of trash talk..than does the other get credited for being admirable or criticized that all the trash talk must be true –because they are not coming back and defending the insults.

To me, in my one person mind… we need government that will not support continuous hand outs. I do believe unemployment benefits should be available as people get back on their feet, heck they have paid into that insurance in case they ever need it. I personally had to benefit from unemployment once in my life. But we need not have more ways of extending the unemployment checks for  the 23 million people unemployed and growing… we need to be supporting these 23 million ( and more) people by being a country where employment is available.

I find that the government seems to be focusing on more ways to print money , increase debt, to help those who are not working. And some of the reason there are 23 + million unemployed people – in my humble opinion is because we have given those jobs to people in other countries. I have heard thru various articles and reports that our government ( a couple years back) was going to have more people building roads, fast trains, bridges—and THAT will help us put people back to work. Well that would help all the 24 + yrs olds with college degrees living in the same 10×10 room they grew up in. But what about the 40, 50 and 60 year olds that thought they had a job through retirement..only to find themselves on the curb with an “Out of business” sign on the door of the place they thought was their home away from home.

I look at how far in debt we are,Oswego NY 6-11-12 014 I see media of all sorts stating  we just need to do another 4 yrs with this administration, I look at people who have  almost 30 something kids that are still living in their homes, and I am thinking THIS IS NOT THE AMERCIAN DREAM!! Each person in their 20s with the feeling of there is  no job to take, no where to go… living at home… having meals, insurance, clothing provided for them.. what happens at age 27 ??
They are still at home, still have food and life’s essentials provided..and we the government have supplied more a pathway to show them how to accept others providing for your life..than you providing it for yourself. By 27—most investors would be recommending that these people should be well on their way to prepare for their retirement. And yet instead of contributing to the social security funds, instead of having their own 401 K accounts, instead of having their own place… they are the same place they were when they were 13 yrs old.

I wonder what happened to journey of growing up and when you are in your early teens to be looking forward to 15 … cuz you can go and get a job… or 18 because you could vote..and have a job (or 2 or 3) and GET YOUR OWN PLACE!! I dreamt of that., my mind was filled with how neat it would be to move out on my own. Oh and that first night away from the bedroom of my life… cooking on a stove that is new to me, deciding if breakfast was going to be a hamburger… and having desert before dinner…to not have anyone tell me it was time to go to bed…to chose my pathways and know that at the fork in the road it was the consequences of my choice that got me there. TO have my own mailing address, bank account, bills, mail box…. NOT once did I long for living under my moms roof for years on end. A parents home should be one that is there in a bind..but not for a life time. TO move back into a parent’s home— it is to get back on your feet… and within a few weeks… a move to your new destiny.

The 20 something  people are our future. So we have one politician going to college campuses—filled with many people who will be moving back home…. telling the kids to vote for me that party again—because if you do not—well you may lose your health insurance…or you may lose this or that. Yet not letting them know that the job they dream of is now being filled by someone in another country.

How about instead of instilling fear of what you Won’t have..maybe instilling hope for jobs and self sufficiency….and assurance that they too can live the American Dream .

I find it maybe back in  finance 101 that to save money you need to make money. Look at all the countries we are helping financially..and what money are they putting back into our pockets? Than  look at those same countries and see if they have people marching around shouting they hate the USA.
Yes I am frustrated with the way it is now..and I am hoping that we end up with strength in the White House to help take the trillions upon trillions in debt and turn it around..to help businesses stay in America, and put people back to work. I am looking, desiring and praying for a change.

Peace to all, I hope today “LABOR DAY” means something more to you than a day off.

Love Mrs Justa alias Cindy

Facts of life… We are born, we learn all kinds of lessons along the way, we grow up, and we have bills, we deal with challenges and hopefully we learn to handle them as they come along.

Katjas baby, bills 014I went and saw a woman today who just had her first child. We have known each other for quite a few years. We have worked together in 2 different places.

She is a friend, she is someone I have been able to share some great and not so great times with. She is a special woman, very giving, very caring. I feel lucky to know her.

Tonight I saw it,  she had that glow.. you know the one I mean.. as she looked at that tiny baby and said “Wow that is my baby, that is my baby boy, I can hardly believe it..” It was cool. To see the excitement of being a mom. It was neat to see how unafraid she was of handling him. It was refreshing to share a few moments with her, her son, her brother, sister-in-law, niece and step mom. To hold him was neat… a 5 pound baby boy….

I am so glad I went up there to see her. There was a bond, a bond that no one or nothing can break… there was something special about the interaction with her baby.

Mitt Romeny’s wife spoke to the Katjas baby, bills 008woman of the world last evening. About the challenges woman face, and that they know every single hair on their kids heads, how they behave, they take their kids here and there, they are there in the middle of the night to comfort them from a bad dream, or to help control a high fever, to read a book, to rock them to sleep. And for those woman blessed with a baby… a precious life that has many journeys to encounter along the way…she spoke to them.

She spoke to woman with or without children. For woman are focused on relationships and really in many cases..woman are the glue that hold the lives around them together.

Most woman I know never have to tell anyone about all they do… they just do it.

Woman are the wind under the wings of their spouses, their significant others, their children and sometimes even their friends. And tonight as I watched this new mom, and her very special little baby …. I was once again reminded of the wonders of growing up, the joy of children and the blessings we have been given because we are woman. And it was neat to think that this woman is going to be the wind under this little guys wings some day too…

Love to all… I am done singing my version of “I AM WOMAN”.. Congrats to Katja..he is precious. Mrs Justa alais Cindy
