100_4994 Attitude!!! It seems to be a new term for people – or other living beings that treat others with a sense of arrogance, a sense of being better than the other person.

Well we have come to find out our back yard flock of feathered friends have an attitude.

Now I am not talking about a little pecking here or there, no… I am talking about mocking us humans, shunning us and actually making me feel a little psychologically abused by those little tweeters. It all began a few months back when we decided to buy a bird feeder pole, so we could actually see the feathered creatures we were feeding from afar. Now I always thought if you filled the feeder they will come. Well not these uppity flight mongrels.

First we started out with the “wild bird seed mix” from Save A Lot. We attracted birds, life seemed good in the bird brain area. Than we saw at Farm and Tractor that we could buy 5 times more in a bulk bag— ( might I add the bag is white paper so no visual of what was in it.) Well we bought that great buy the next time we were running low and went in to our kitchenette table to watch the birds. Well those feathered snobs took turns flying onto the feeders and flinging the food on the ground with a vengeance.. as if to say “ What is this crap”  We really should have known when we proudly carried this great buy on bird food to the register and the young girl who checked us out …she cleared her throat and looked at the two of us and said “ Have you ever fed birds before?” I figured it was because she was longing for the wisdom of the elderly… so we said “Why yes we do” As I was taking a deep breath to share my bird feeding wisdom ( which is not much) She said.. “Well you won’t get many colored birds with this stuff.” We assured her we use the same food now and it is ok.

100_4995 Ha!! We should have known she was trying to tell us something. But NOOO – it took a bunch of 3-4 ounce feather creatures about 5 minutes of literally throwing all the seed on the ground for us to realize we were being shunned by the birds. So we went out and bought sunflower seeds, mixed them with the great buy food, and seemed to be on the road to recovery with the trust of the birds.

Than last week we decided to spoil their feathered asses and bought fruit and nut seed. We anxiously awaited them to finish our mixture from our previous error, and we filled it up. Proud to apologize to them with a new expensive food. To our embarrassment and humiliation- they have protested our feeder now ! Oh a few will come over, look in the clear sides , knock on the plastic with their bills and leave literally bitching to their buddies. Tonight Mark and I went out in the garden , I wanted to grab some zucchini for Jeff and Amanda- and the birds must have all been in the tree line behind our property. Almost on cue, they started with their shrill chirping- the bird bitching chirping, and all took off, as if to tell us what we can do with this food.

So once again we will get something to mix this with and than it is back to the good old Save A Lot bird food. But how amazing it is , that these little feathered friends, have made me feel unworthy. Yep.. we have birds with an ATTITUDE. Birds with an entitlement syndrome. What is this world coming too… ( they must be playing too many video games or watching too much TV!!)

Love to all, Mrs Justa
